Humanity's Eternal Warfare: Conscious Choice Or Righteous Crusade?

Humanity does not have the capacity to end war. It is not a matter of when the final battle will be won. Battles don't bring peace. Battles beget battles and perpetual battles beget perpetual warfare. I recently was introduced (through Facebook) to a Steven Chesne album called Sapient: A Cantata of Peace. One of the pieces on the album was based on a Lao Tzu truism: Victory Is a Funeral. A fuller elaboration on Lao Tzu's philosophy is offered up by Google:

Victory, especially in war, is seen as a cause for mourning rather than celebration, akin to attending a funeral. This perspective stems from the Taoist view that violence, even in triumph, disrupts the natural order and brings about negative consequences. Therefore, a true follower of the Tao, or the Way, would approach victory with solemnity and grief, recognizing the loss of life and the disruption of peace.

If victory brings peace, as we perpetually hope, it eventually will be disrupted by war again and again and again. Why is this so?

How It All Began

Our creation story (pick one from any earthly mythology) begins with Adam and Eve living in peaceful bliss, at one with their creator. But something happens and they are thrust from the Garden of Eden. Well, the story, as we've learned it, actually says that God kicked them out. But I'm not sure that is completely true. Maybe Adam and Eve got scared that God would punish them for taking one bite from one apple. So maybe they ran, just in case. I know that God is a mean son-of-a-bitch in the Old Testament, but I think maybe the expulsion over an apple was going just a bit too far.

In any case, it is just as likely that Adam and Eve made a conscious choice to leave paradise. This was no small decision. From this point forward, forever after, all of humanity would make collective and individual choices based on one certitude --separation. After millennia of conditioning, this fundamental "truth" is deeply etched into the human psyche. With this conscious choice to separate from divinity, we descended into a fear-based existence rejecting the idea of oneness and finding ourselves adrift in a sea of competing dualities --scarcity and plenty, good and evil, love and hate, black and white, mine and yours, him and her, true and false, strength and weakness, deserving and undeserving, winners and losers.

If we strip each instance of humanity's hate or aggression or war down to its fundamental impetus, it will always be about competing dualities. I think we can rest assured that every duality of opposites that defines our reality leads ultimately to one kind of warfare or another. Wars perpetuated ad infinitum while we await the ultimate battle, a war to end all wars, a time when the ultimate victory by the "right" side will usher the world into an era of lasting peaceful coexistence. Or not. How has the worked for us so far?

Doom and Gloom or Just Reality

This is not all gratuitous doom and gloom. It has been and continues to be the reality in which we exist, at least since our most recent creation story. Over the last three or four generations we have all fought the good fight for peace, for justice, for compassion, for a world-as-one, for fairness, for a true humanity akin to Abraham's tent or a Christ-like love of all people, all life, and of our earthly home.

Reaching back a few more generations, in the last two hundred and fifty years alone, a period that is just a nano second in historical time, we have accomplished the building of a new nation, a beacon on a hill, a nation of equal rights and promise for all, a nation undergirded by the Constitution that our forefathers bequeathed us, and a nation driven by the potency of the rule of law and separation of powers that ensured its perpetuation.

America was the world's last best hope for a peaceful global co-existence. Of course we needed to "fine tune" as we went along (sometimes with catastrophic results) for issues like slavery and poverty and workers rights and voting rights and civil right and fair housing and equal opportunity, and environmental protection.

We have a lot to congratulate ourselves about. But on the eve of our nation's 250th birthday, along comes a fool that charms half a nation and takes a sledge-hammer to all that we considered good and fair and righteous. We were on the "right" side, the "good" side, weren't we? How are we ever going to climb that mountain again.?

What Now? Conscious Choice or Righteous Crusade

We need not climb that mountain again. The "good fight" is still a fight, a battle, a confrontation, a looming war akin to our American Revolution. We aren't fighting King George or the British Empire. Now it's a wanna-be-king Donald who is the evil one. We must fight! Good will prevail even if we have to fight to the death! And here we are again (!) on the same trajectory that Adam and Eve set in motion eons ago. And to top it off, "righteous" wars surround us.

It may seem unthinkable to most people to reduce all of this to a few simple statements. But I am offering this up:

The problem is not good vs evil. It is in the denial of our own divinity. It is the certitude of separation from source which has become part of our human identity. It is the veil of forgetfulness that descends at a very young age, a forgetting of our true nature, a disconnect from the truth that we all are spiritual beings, each of us incarnating in this earthly reality with good intent.

The problem is the collective and individual conditioned belief or "agreement" that dualities like good vs evil are a fundamental aspect of existence (like space or time or a material universe) and that earthly reality is not a safe place or state of being. Much of Darwin's evolutionary concept of "survival of the fittest" has been debunked in recent decades, but that belief is firmly entrained in each cell of our physical being. We cannot imagine a reality in which the concepts, even the words themselves --battle, conflict, struggle, hostility, war-- simply do not exist. In a real sense we are participants in a mass consciousness of which we are totally unaware.

This may be a dissatisfying assumption for many, if not most, people. But I am not talking about God or religion or heaven or hell. Though we can use these conceptualizations to grasp the idea of non-corporeal existence, which is at the root of humanity's ability to perpetuate or to change its current course.

What I am talking about is the conscious mind. Not the brain or brain matter. Not scientific experiments like super colliders trying to smash apart the tiniest particles to find the answers to our existence. I am not talking about the material world at all. I am talking about consciousness which is (for want of a better definition) our non-corporeal state of being. It is the consciousness that is the true self, that creates matter and reality, that comes from an infinite divine source, that exists as self after bodily death, that is what we are when we reincarnate as a newborn in this or any number of other realities.

From the perspective of the relatively new "science of consciousness" it is the most fundamental aspect of reality from which time, space, and materiality are formed. From the perspective of seers and philosophers and holy men and spiritual mediums who channel disembodied entities, it is the SOUL.

Consciousness and the End of Dualistic Thinking

Religions capitalize on our very limited understanding of soul and the duality that comes with it: heaven and hell. Eternal happiness or eternal damnation. But soul is much more than that. It is an aspect of eternal consciousness which we can call God or Source or All That Is or Eternal Oneness. We might think of soul metaphorically as a drop of water in a massive ocean. As the ocean's waves crash against the rocks and throw out a spray or mist of millions of tiny water particles each one is an eternal soul or conscious self choosing to manifest for a time in physical form (birth) and then return to source after bodily death--all in an instant, all in the eternal now.

All life knows this. At some level, all human beings know where they come from and who and what they are. Our dreams are evidence of an inner reality that tells us this. The newborn child knows this. And when we have  experiences that defy what we "think" we know about reality, we know this..

Humanity's wars will not end if we cling to false beliefs about our "separateness" and continue to deny our own divinity. We are all the ocean and we are all droplets. Perhaps we need a new creation story or perhaps we can let go of the biblical stories and injunctions that have shackled us for more than two thousand years!. Let go of the history that damns us to an eternal struggle for survival or false hope of righteous victory.

Messages From Spirit

Spirit entities have connected with humanity to help us remember and, as much as possible, to return to our true nature even while we continue our physical experience here on earth. You may believe in such things or not. But the messages I share here are apropos to where we sit historically at this exact moment:

Seth Speaks Books: The Eternal Validity of the Soul (Channeled by Medium Jane Roberts and published in 1972)

You have considered yourselves as apart from the rest of nature and consciousness. Your own survival as a species was your main concern. You considered other species only in the light of their use to you. You did not have any true conception of the great sacredness of all consciousness nor your relationship within it... . Presently, you are carrying that idea forward --of species survival regardless of the consequences, the idea of changing the environment to suit your own purposes and this has led you to a disregard of spiritual truths.

The species must learn the value of the individual...and to comprehend its part in the whole framework of physical reality... . Now: Some individuals are being reborn at this time simply to help you understand. They are forcing the issue, and forcing the crisis, for you still have time to change your ways. You are working on two main problems, but both involve the sacredness of the individual, and the individual's relationship with others and with all physically oriented consciousness.

The problem of war, will sooner or later teach you that when you kill another man, basically you will end up killing yourself. The overpopulation problem will teach you that if you do not have a loving concern for the environment in which you dwell, it will no longer sustain you --you will not be worthy of it... . You will not be destroying the planet.. . You will not be destroying consciousness. You will not annihilate the consciousness of even one leaf, but in your context, if the problem [is] not solved, these would fade from your experience.

Messages from the Guides: The Book of Innocence: A Channeled Text (Channeled by Medium Paul Selig and published in 2023)
Now, the world you see before you in great change, is about to undergo a mass shift of an awareness of what [has been] chosen in the past. The world chooses, you see. And every great age, every great achievement that humanity has ever encountered, was not born of one, but was born of the collective allowing for the new to be made present in the common field. If you understand this, you will understand how leaps occur --either in science, or in art, or in philosophy. The template seals a perfection before it can be born. A new idea may be seen first in the ethers, then in the imaginations of many. And this is always the Divine in expression supporting humanity in its next stage of evolution.

But there are opposing forces in humanity's field of consciousness:

There was a time in [your country] where people were hung in the town square... . 'We will hang the horse thief and restore our town to the dignity it once had.' While you don't do that anymore, you still replicate the idea of punishment, public execution, or public displays of shame and retribution that call to yourselves the residual affect, as beings, of that choice to participate. This is a consciousness that was developed well before your lifetimes. But the memory of them, these acts of betrayal against humanity, through collective agreement, simply operate within each of you --an accrued wisdom, an accrued belief, or an accrued problem that you believed once had merit and still holds itself in vibration. 'We must be vindicated.' 'Evil must be vanquished and punished.' 'We must be righteous or we will fall.'

What entities like Seth and The Guides are asking is that mankind relinquish the old history to which we are so attached and to move beyond the residual affect of pain, or suffering, or fear, all claimed through the denial of Source. They are telling us that by letting go of restrictive beliefs set in motion so very long ago, born in fear and separation, that war and the dualities that drive it will not only be eradicated from the earth, but the idea of war or hate or exploitation will not (cannot) be held in humanity's field of consciousness. It simply will not exist.
